Robbery Suspect Arrested After Police Chase
BROWARD COUNTY - A robbery suspect led police on a chase on the Sawgrass Expressway Thursday afternoon.
Police said the chase began after two robberies in Pompano Beach at about 4:40 p.m. One robbery took place in the 2600 block of Atlantic Boulevard and the other was in the 200 block of South Federal Highway.
During one of the robberies, officials said the robber punched a woman in the face.
The chase began near Atlantic Boulevard and Federal Highway and continued west on Interstate 595.
The robber, who was driving a white truck, crashed into a Broward Sheriff's Office vehicle on I-595. No one was injured in the crash.
The robber then went north on the Sawgrass Expressway until he crossed the median and turned around to go south. A blue unmarked police car tapped the suspect's truck, but he continued.
BSO and Florida Highway Patrol officers pursued the vehicle until it crashed into several other cars and ended up on the median between Lyons Road and State Road 441. The robber was arrested at the scene.
There were no major injuries in the crashes.
